Are your products organic?

While our products are not certified organic, they are made with approximately 85-90% organic ingredients. We prioritize high-quality, natural components, including organic oils, essential oils, and local beeswax, to create a product you can trust.

What’s the difference between the Lip & Cheek Tints and the Tinted Lip Balms?

Our lip and cheek tint (5 mL glass jar) is creamy, highly pigmented, and easy to build for bold or subtle looks. It’s softer in texture, making it ideal for precise application on both lips and cheeks, with a dewy, vibrant finish. The tinted lip balm(.3 oz paper tube) is firmer and less pigmented, offering a more subtle, natural wash of color. It’s perfect for everyday use, providing a hint of tint along with nourishing hydration. The eco-friendly paper tube makes it travel-friendly and sustainable.

How do I use the paper lip balm tubes?

To use the paper lip balm tubes, simply push up from the bottom to expose the balm. Apply directly to your lips as needed. The paper tube is eco-friendly and biodegradable, making it a sustainable option for lip care.

Why does the sugar scrub come with a cosmetic stick?

The cosmetic stick included with your sugar scrub is provided for hygienic, easy application. It helps you scoop the product without using your hands, ensuring that the scrub stays clean and preventing contamination from repeated use.

What are the benefits of calendula flowers?

Calendula flowers are renowned for their soothing, healing, and anti-inflammatory properties. They help reduce skin irritation, promote skin regeneration, and calm conditions like eczema, psoriasis, and dermatitis. Their antimicrobial properties also support the skin’s natural healing process, making them ideal for use in products meant to comfort dry, sensitive, or damaged skin.

Where do you source your tallow from?

Our beef suet, which is rendered down and purified to make tallow, is sourced from local Illinois farmers who raise their cows on small, family-owned farms. These cows are pasture-raised and grass-fed throughout their lives, with grain finishing only in the final stages before butchering. This grain-finishing process does not compromise the quality of the suet fat, which remains rich and pure. While grass-fed and grass-finished beef is becoming more popular, grain finishing remains a common practice for many cattle ranchers, as it adds marbling to the beef, enhancing both flavor and tenderness. Unlike some tallow skincare products that use all beef fat, we exclusively use the prized suet—the premium fat surrounding the kidneys, known for its purity and high quality.

Rather than outsourcing our suet sourcing to unknown farmers simply to label it as both grass-fed and grass-finished, we prefer to support locally raised, quality beef. By working directly with farmers in our community, we ensure the highest standards of animal care and sustainable practices. This approach allows us to use the suet responsibly, benefiting both the environment and our local community, while avoiding waste and honoring the animals raised with care.

What are the benefits of beef tallow?

Beef tallow is rich in nourishing fats that are similar to the natural oils found in our skin. It's highly moisturizing, deeply hydrating, and supports skin elasticity. Tallow also contains vitamins A, D, E, and K, which are essential for maintaining healthy skin. It can be particularly beneficial for dry, cracked skin, and it helps protect the skin from environmental damage.

How is your beef tallow made?

Our beef tallow is made in-house in small batches to ensure the highest quality and a pure, clean product. We use a slow, wet-rendering process, which gently simmers the suet at low temperatures to preserve its nutrients and purity. After rendering, the tallow is triple-purified to remove any remaining moisture, solids or impurities, resulting in a smooth, odor-neutral, and nutrient-rich product. This careful, hands-on process guarantees a tallow that’s incredibly pure, clean, and perfect for skincare products.

What is squalene?

Squalene is a lightweight, non-comedogenic ingredient naturally found in the skin’s sebum. In skincare, it’s often sourced from olives, which we use in our products because it is less processed than sugarcane-derived squalene. It deeply hydrates the skin, improves texture, and enhances elasticity, helping to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Squalene also calms inflammation, strengthens the skin’s protective barrier, and provides antioxidant protection, supporting a smoother, more youthful complexion.

What is sea buckthorn oil?

Sea buckthorn oil is a nutrient-dense oil extracted from the berries of the Sea Buckthorn plant. Known for its rich content of essential fatty acids, antioxidants, and vitamins A, C, and E, it helps rejuvenate skin, reduce inflammation, and promote skin healing. It is especially beneficial for dry, aging, or damaged skin.

Summer vs Winter Recipe Modifications:

In warmer months, some ingredients, such as beeswax in body butter, may need adjustment due to temperature sensitivity. Beeswax helps products maintain their texture, but during warmer weather, the higher temperatures can cause body butter to soften or even melt. To prevent this, we increase the amount of beeswax in products like lip balms, deodorants, and salve sticks in summer. This ensures they hold their consistency and effectiveness without becoming too runny.

My body butter has melted, now what?

If your body butter melts, it can still be used, but the texture may be altered. You can refrigerate it to firm it up again or allow it to cool and re-solidify at room temperature. Keep in mind that body butter’s effectiveness won’t be compromised by melting—only its consistency.

Why is my Tallow Face Cream harder than expected?

Over time, tallow-based creams can become firmer as the air incorporated during the whipping process escapes. This natural change doesn't affect the product’s quality, but it may make it feel denser. To remedy this, you can warm the cream slightly between your fingers before applying to soften it.

Why does my tallow product feel beady?

Tallow products can feel beady or gritty due to slight variations in the fat structure (due to temperature fluctuations) or natural crystallization of ingredients. Tallow is primarily made up of saturated fats, and some of these fats solidify at different rates. When the product cools or is stored at different temperatures, this can lead to the crystallization of fat molecules, forming small beads or grains. These variations are normal and do not affect the quality or effectiveness of the product. Once the product begins to melt, the texture will smooth out, and it will absorb evenly into your skin, providing all the nourishing benefits without any impact on performance.

Why are there some brown/black flecks in some of my Root & Bloom Co. products?

Brown or black flecks in our products, like raw shea butter or natural beeswax, are completely normal. These flecks are natural components of these unrefined ingredients and are not harmful. They may occur due to variations in the raw materials, but they do not affect the quality or performance of the product.

Unrefined ingredients are superior because they retain their natural vitamins, minerals, and beneficial properties that refining often removes. Unrefined shea butter is packed with vitamins A and E, fatty acids, and antioxidants, delivering intense hydration, soothing irritation, and promoting skin healing. Unrefined coconut oil retains its natural antibacterial properties and lauric acid, making it highly effective for hydration and protection. Similarly, natural beeswax preserves its anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties, creating a purer, protective barrier for the skin.

These unrefined components ensure your skin receives the highest-quality, nutrient-rich care, free from unnecessary chemical processing.

How long will my products last?

Our natural skincare products generally have an average shelf life of 6 months from the date of purchase.

Our products can last anywhere from 2 months to 1 year, based on:

•The specific product formulation. (e.g. Tallow products should be used within 6 months; Sugar lip scrubs 2 months.)

•Proper storage (keep in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight).

•How frequently the product is opened or exposed to air.

Important Note:

Since we don’t use synthetic preservatives, proper care is essential to extend the life of our products. Moisture introduced into tallow-based products may cause bacteria to grow. To maintain freshness and quality:

• Always use clean, dry hands or a spatula to scoop out the product.

• Avoid exposing the product to water or other contaminants.

A decrease in the potency of the essential oil scent is to be expected overtime. For optimal freshness, use within the recommended timeframe.

Where should I store my products?

Store in a cool, dark place, and avoid moisture and direct sunlight to maintain the integrity and effectiveness of your products. Keep them in a cupboard, drawer, or closet, away from heat sources and humidity. This will help prevent degradation of natural ingredients and extend shelf life.
